#1. "RE: Present Perfect Simple Vs Present Perfect Continuous" In response to Reply # 0
Dear hishamlubbad,
We use present perfect simple for events that are now complete, and present perfect continuous for actions that are incomplete; I've cut my leg! It's bleeding! I've been cutting this piece of wood for 20 minutes, and I still haven't finished. I've done my homework. I've been doing my homework for over an hour.
Present perfect continuous can also be used when we want to focus on an activity more than on a complete period of time; I've worked here for 5 years (the focus here is on '5 years') I've been working here for 5 years (the focus here is on the activity of working)
